It's a knockout!

Will USA capture Spain's crown?

We've reached the business end of basketball's world championships in Turkey and although most of the usual suspects are still in with a shout, Greece are the only big name to have fallen by the wayside thus far. Our experts predict a USA-Spain final, but with Lithuania, Russia and Brazil in such good form and the Turkish crowd getting behind the hosts, a shock wouldn't actually be so shocking!

Advantage Federer/Nadal
Juan Martin del Potro isn't around to defend his crown and so it looks like the 2010 US Open title is Federer's/Nadal's to lose. Both men are yet to drop a set as they battle for supremacy, whilst at the same time British hope and number 4 seed Andy Murray was sent crashing out by Federer's close friend, sparring partner and number 25 seed Stanislas Wawrinka. Swiss Wawrinka now has a tie against Sam Querrey to look forward to, whereas the top two seeds can only meet in the final - should they both get there.

In the women's game, the absence of Serena means that the rest of the field have slightly more self-belief, none more so than the very present Venus Williams who made light work of Israeli Shahar Peer to set up a match against Francesca Schiavone in the quarter final. Other quarter final matchups pit number 1 seed Caroline Wozniacki against Dominika Cibulkova and 2009 champion Kim Clijsters against the plucky Samantha Stosur which should be epic.

National Pride
Qualification for Euro 2012 is underway and the second round of matches brings with it some interesting clashes. Whilst Germany, Italy, Sweden and the Republic of Ireland are huge favourites against Azerbaijan, Faroe Islands, San Marino and Andorra respectively, things won't be as straight forward for Israel in Georgia, for France in Bosnia, for Turkey at home to Belgium or for Romania against a Belarus team still on a high after their victory in Paris last week.

Russia host Slovakia in a match which could prove more tricky than it sounds and likewise the match between Norway and Portugal is a lot harder to call after the latter's shocking performance at home to Cyprus last week where they managed only a 4-4 draw! England leave the comfort zone of Wembley to face Ottmar Hitzfeld's Switzerland and, as much as they'd like to continue from where they left-off, this will be a much sterner test than that provided (or not) by Bulgaria last Friday.
